Protect Yourself from Scammers
Scammers are becoming bolder and more frequent these days, making it important to stay alert and informed. Understanding the signs of fraud is one of the best ways to protect yourself and your accounts.
One of the most common scams circulating is the “unpaid toll” text message. These messages claim you have a toll violation and must pay immediately to avoid penalties. The message usually includes a link that appears to lead to an official website, but it’s actually a phishing website designed to steal your personal and financial information.
- Never click on a link in a text or email that asks for payment or personal information.
- Never provide debit or credit card details through links sent via text or email.
- Never share verification codes.
Scammers are now becoming even bolder. After stealing payment information, they may attempt to link your debit or credit card to Apple Pay or Google Pay. You might receive a verification code by text or email, and the scammer will contact you claiming they need that code to “verify” the payment. In reality, you’re authorizing them to link your card to their digital wallet.
REMEMBER:

- Check your accounts frequently using digital banking.
- Set up account alerts for transactions and debit card activity.
- Lock your debit card instantly through digital banking if you notice suspicious activity.
Stay vigilant. Stay informed. Protect what matters most.
