History of State Street Bank
State Street Bank and Trust Company, Quincy's oldest community bank, was founded in 1890 by local businessmen who believed that a community bank would benefit the Quincy, Illinois area. "The fundamental tenet on which State Street Bank was founded was a simple one: to provide a place for the safekeeping of our customers' funds; and to then loan and invest those funds in a prudent manner so our community could grow and prosper." James E. White, 1990 (President 1972-2000) This original mission is still our focus today and will continue into the future as well.
Located in the heart of Quincy, Illinois, State Street Bank is the anchor of the State and Eighth business area. The original bank location was on the Southeast corner of State and Eighth. In 1906, the bank relocated to the Northeast corner of the same intersection where we remain today. The beautiful architecture of the early 1900's has been preserved and our main bank building is truly a jewel in the Gem City of Quincy! In our lobby, we often notice customers looking up in awe at our exquisite ceiling and cornice work. The stately presence is a constant reminder that we reflect a strong, rich heritage of banking in Quincy.
Over the past twenty years, we have grown to include four facilities to serve the mobile society in which we live with flexible hours and numerous banking options. In 1995, State Street Bank/East was constructed at the corner of 48th & Broadway. Because the growth of the Quincy area continued to head east, State Street Bank/East quickly outgrew its quarters. In 2002 remodeling was completed which tripled its square footage. The staff has grown from 5 to 15 and houses the Investment Center of Quincy, as well as our Trust Department.
Continuous growth has been successfully managed by our Board of Directors over the years. Our current directors are:
